BIG NEWS: aih010 split 7” w/ Gum / Playlounge / Joanna Gruesome / KEEL HER
We’ve been scurrying around planning this release for nigh on 6 months now, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting to finally be able to tell you we are releasing some of our favourite bands to have cropped up in the UK DIY scene over the past 12 months. They are, of course.. Gum, Joanna Gruesome, Playlounge and KEEL HER.
Although they’re all making slightly different sounds, there seems to have been the stirrings of a movement over the past couple of months; as these bands have started to tour together, cover each others songs and even swap members. To document this burgeoning community of friends making great music we have decided to put out our second ever 7” record! Each band has contributed a new exclusive song, and a further four songs appear as a ‘digital bside’. So tracklisting looks a little like this.
1. Gum - Cherryade 2. Playlounge - Conor, Oh Burst? 3. Joanna Gruesome - Sweater 4. KEEL HER - Norman
Digital ‘b side’
5. Gum - Soon 6. Playlounge - Revolution Summer 7. Joanna Gruesome - Tugboat (Galaxie 500 cover) 8. KEEL HER - Wilson
As ever we’ve tried to make the release worth every penny and credit has to go to Ric-Hard for turning all 14 of us into cartoons for the artwork. In addition to this the first 100 orders will also come with a free 5 piece badge set (one for each band + us) and all orders come with a download code for the full 8 track EP. For an extra £7.60 we’re selling a bundle that includes an all new Art is Hard t-shirt pictured below (lovingly printed by Vinosangre).
In an effort to not spoil you all too much we’re going to be gradually revealing the tracks over the coming weeks starting today with the opener from London shoegazers - Gum. ‘Cherryade’ is a bonafide piece of grunge pop, deserving to be filed somewhere between My Bloody Valentine and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. If you think you’ve heard this before, I can assure you that you haven’t heard it done as effortlessly and expertly as this. Watch the video below and then head to our Bandcamp page for a free download… oh and play LOUD. If you want to catch them live, they’re playing at 8pm at Power Lunches tonight (Wednesday) and 9pm at The Waiting Room tomorrow (Thursday).
Incase you haven’t already made your way there, the 7” and tshirt are available for pre-order from our Bandcamp in time for a release date of 18th June. A digital version of the EP will be sent a couple of weeks beforehand. If you’d like to be informed of when the rest of the tracks appear, you can sign up to our mailing list on the right hand side of our page and we’ll attempt to remember to remind you.
It’s surfs up this morning and good vibes all around. Even though I’ve never been surfing before, Sheffield four piece surf rock/ garage pop band Best Friends sure makes me want to go run out to the nearest beach and do so. Similar to artists such as Surfer Blood and a more fast paced Beach Fossils, Best Friends is definitely a feel good band and a pick me up for any bad day. Their sound is full of 70’s lo-fi haziness, jangly guitars, and a fun poppy youthful nature. For some reason the chocobo theme from Final Fantasy 7 just came to mind but that’s besides the point. The bands motto is SHRED TILL YOUR DEAD and if you’re going to then why not stop by bandcamp first and pick up their two eps from Art Is Hard Records. Their first self titled ep is available for whatever price you choose and their latest ep Throwing Up can be picked up for $4.78. Don’t forget to head over to their soundcloud page to hear more tunes from these guys.
