How did I not find this earlier? Big thanks to my pal Rachel Levy for unknowingly turning me on to this because it just made my day.
Ok so there is this band from Sheffield, England and they are called Best Friends.Oh and their debut EP is called Surf Bitches and the cover features a tie-dye-wearin’ golden retriever. If someone told me that the band was in this for anything other than the fun of it I would flat out call them a liar. I mean come on, it’s a golden retriever!
Now the music itself is (again) some spunky, noisy surf rock. Sorry for the barrage of it lately but like I said I’m on vacation. So in order for you to get a little taste of what I’m feelinn’ right now then do yourself a favor and download this free EP. If it doesn’t slap a big stupid grin across your mug then you are most likely dead.
It was Jacks first time in Norwich, we also went to the most easterly point, Great Yarmouth and California. Theres an arcade in California.
Last night we played in Norwich with our pals Faster Than Robots and Cold Hands. James from Cold Hands got passed out so heres a photo of him with stuff on him. Note someone was asleep underneath him and the big cushion too
Cheers everyone who came to the gigs and got our EP so far, its been real fun!
BEST FRIENDS released their “first properly recorded” EP yesterday, and it’s just too good. Expressions, promises, tales, rebellion, freedom, honesty, independence. Stay young forever. There is so much to cover about this EP, just download it- it would be borderline ridiculous not to. The carefree essence of BEST FRIENDS is perfectly transferred into this definition of pure youthful fun in the sun. Please come to California BEST FRIENDS, the UK has had you for long enough.
I am always a sucker for a good I wanna go surfing and play at the beach jam. You give me a track that is the musical lovechild of The Drums and Wavves and well you’ve made me an instant fan. Throw into the mix a track that is all Peter Pan syndrome-y and hell you have me hooked even more. If you want to download “Grow Old” or hear more from Best Friends head on over to Bandcamp! Btw how adorable is that album art?!
Hello, yesterday we played a gig at the Gatsby. It was very fun and possibly the funnest gig we have played to date. Cheers for coming and to Matt at Uneven Blonde for putting us on. It was a top lineup of our faves. Heres a photo of mine and Cam from Cold Hands Clios on arrival to the house of best friends. If you liked Cold Hands, you can listen to their previous EP and a couple off the new one here - http://cold-hands.bandcamp.com/
Also our EP is now online and will be available within the next 10 minutes or so. You and get it for free, or pay anything from £0.01 to £999999999999999999999999999. Its up to you - http://bestfriendspartyhard.bandcamp.com/
We need to give an extra special shout out to Owen and the Heebie Jeebies for recording us, cheers guys.
Also im afraid the shirt I was wearing last night is non-negotiable, sorry!
Me and Tom went to tramlines. Here are some poor photos.
After cruzin up in my 99’ 1.2 8v Renault Clio Grande we went to The West End on Friday and watched Cuss Words followed by Dignan Porch. Heres a photo that describes their sound. Definitely not just a blurred photo.
Mo made his head look weird
We bro down then go to the Washington to catch Drenge rocking out shortly after this. I think this was also the point where I stopped taking photos as they were all shit.
The next day we spent mostly at the Bowery as Matt of Uneven Blonde had put some good stuff on. Horses were very nice and pleasurable to watch.
Milk Maid and Bos Angeles were very good aswell. Serious beard action too.
I didn’t take anymore photos but after watching some crustys juggling surrounding the world music stage we went home to get drunk then went back to the bowery and had a bit of a shuffle. On Sunday we saw our buddies Grazes play at the Cremourne, they do a sweet cover of Fleetwood Mac. As always I missed loads I wanted to see but it was a well good weekend, those who worked hard to make it happen and keep it free should give themselves a pat on the back.
